El Caño Archaeological Park

El Cano is a pre-Columbian necropolis in Cocle province, Panama, dating to 700-1000 AD and attributed to the Gran Cocle culture. The site features two rows of standing monoliths with carved anthropomorphic and zoomorphic heads, and richly furnished elite burials containing gold breastplates, belts, jewelry, and bone flutes. Recent excavations have uncovered tombs with gold ornaments decorated with bat and crocodile imagery, reinforcing its interpretation as a dynastic necropolis where elite chieftains were buried with sacrificed attendants across generations.
