Bolareinen is a celebrated petroglyph site near Stod in Steinkjer, Norway, featuring a life-size reindeer carving (180 x 136 cm) dated to 3400-3200 BC and described as "probably the most well known of all the Norwegian petroglyphs" [1]. Discovered in 1842, the site now comprises around 30 figures including a bear, elk, seabird, and skier [1]. When the carvings were made, Snasa Lake was still part of the Trondheim Fjord with water levels 35-40 metres higher than today [1]. In Sami culture, the reindeer is interpreted as either a reindeer cow or a staajne, a typically infertile female [1].
