Termessos is an ancient Pisidian city built at over 1,000 meters elevation on Mount Solymos (modern Gulluk Dagi) in the Taurus Mountains, Turkey [1] [2] [3]. Founded by the Solymi tribe who worshipped the deity Solymeus, the city famously resisted Alexander the Great's siege in 333 BCE, who described it as an "eagle's nest" [1]. Key structures include a Hellenistic theatre seating 4,200, a colonnaded street, temples to Artemis and Zeus, and an extensive necropolis [1] [4] [5]. The city was abandoned by the 5th century CE after a devastating earthquake and now lies protected within Gulluk Dagi National Park [1].
