Nitriansky Hrádok

An archaeological tell settlement known as Zamecek ("small castle") near Surany in western Slovakia, with occupation layers dating from approximately 4,800 BC onward, earning it the nickname "Slovakian Troy". The oldest settlement was established by the Lengyel culture in the early 5th millennium BC, with continuous habitation from Prehistory through the Middle Ages. The site is renowned for the discovery of a Neolithic figurine called the Venus of Hradok, which was depicted on Slovakia's two-koruna coin. Late La Tene period settlement remains have also been documented at the site.
