Havránok

Havranok is a major archaeological site in northern Slovakia, situated on a hilltop above the Liptovska Mara reservoir in the Liptov region. Dating from 300-180 BC, the stronghold served as an important center of the Puchov culture, blending Celtic elements with the older Lusatian culture. The Celtic inhabitants belonged to the Kotyn tribe. Excavations revealed a sacrificial altar from the 1st century BC, burnt offerings of grain and jewelry, and the skeletal remains of seven individuals found in a ritual well. A medieval wooden castle from the 11th-15th centuries was also uncovered at the site. Proclaimed a national cultural monument in 1967, it now operates as an open-air museum.
