Tomb of King Tongmyong

The Tomb of King Tongmyong is a mausoleum complex near Pyongyang, North Korea, attributed to Jumong (r. 37-19 BC), the legendary founder of the Goguryeo Kingdom. The main structure is an 11.5 m high mound of large stone blocks topped by a traditional dome. Inscribed as part of the UNESCO Complex of Goguryeo Tombs in 2004, the site contains Goguryeo murals noted for their rich color. The complex includes 63 individual tombs, lesser tombs for family members, and a monastery-museum. Scholars outside North Korea debate whether the tomb genuinely contains Tongmyong's remains.
