Mausoleum of Tangun

The Mausoleum of Tangun is a monumental complex in Kangdong County near Pyongyang, North Korea, claimed to be the tomb of Tangun, legendary founder of Gojoseon. The site features a nine-tiered white stone pyramid standing 22 metres high with a 50-metre-wide base, constructed from 1,994 stone blocks and inaugurated in 1994. The complex includes stone statues of Tangun's four sons and eight ministers flanking a grand staircase. North Korea announced in 1993 that bones dated to over 5,000 years ago were found at the site, but international scholars widely dispute the claims, noting Tangun is likely a mythical figure and no independent testing has been permitted.
