Chongbang Fortress

Jongbang Castle is a Koguryo-era mountain fortress built to defend Pyongyang, located on Mt. Jongbang outside Sariwon in North Hwanghae Province[1]. Rebuilt in 1632 by Kim Chajom, the fortress utilizes natural cliffs by cutting outer slopes and winding around ridges[1]. It features over 12 km of stone walls standing 6 metres high, reaching over 10 metres in places[1]. Four gates pierce the walls, with the south gate best preserved[1]. Inside lie ruins of commander's posts, barracks, arsenals, armories, granaries and storehouses[1].
