Nakrang Tombs

The Nakrang (Nangnang/Lelang) Tombs are ancient burial sites near Pyongyang, North Korea, associated with the Lelang Commandery established by Han Emperor Wudi in 108 BCE. The commandery served as the centre of Chinese culture in Korea with a population of around 400,000 until its conquest by the Goguryeo kingdom in 313 CE. The tombs of the Chinese ruling class contain outstanding examples of Han art, including fine lacquerware from Sichuan workshops with inscriptions dated between 85 BCE and 71 CE. The "Tomb of the Painted Basket" is among the most celebrated finds from the site.
