Magnetic anomaly maps of the Chicxulub impact crater reveal ringed anomalies not evident before. Researchers may investigate these anomalies at nearby sites using compass instruments. The buried Chicxulub crater on the Yucatán Peninsula is 65 million years old and has been mapped using magnetic surveys. The crater's structure shows interlaced ringed anomalies of about 100 and 50 km.

Site mentioned
📍 Yucatan Peninsula
Key facts
- Many Maya sites sit on or within magnetic anomalies caused by the Yucatan meteor impact
- Cody plans to visit a Maya site sitting on an acute pinpoint magnetic anomaly on March 2nd
- Planned experiments include testing magnetic compasses around the site
- Activities scheduled during the blood moon lunar eclipse
- US government magnetic anomaly scans were overlaid with coordinates of discovered sites
