The three Giza pyramids may symbolically represent a mountain range: The Great Pyramid (highest) = pure white limestone casing, Second pyramid = granite base visible, Third pyramid (smallest) = partially granite-cased. Tura limestone originally covered Khufu's pyramid in bright white casing stones, giving a smooth white appearance resembling a snow-capped peak. This design may have been intended to evoke mountain symbolism.
