Pilares do Lena

The Lena Pillars are dramatic natural rock formations along the Lena River in far eastern Siberia, Russia. These towering limestone and dolomite pillars rise 150-300 meters (490-980 feet) above the river banks [1]. Formed during the Cambrian period approximately 500 million years ago when this region was covered by ancient seas, the pillars represent exposed remnants of ancient sea basins [1][2]. The highest concentration of pillars is found between the villages of Petrovskoye and Tit-Ary [1]. The Lena Pillars Nature Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012 [1][3].
