Hawulti is a pre-Aksumite obelisk situated in Matara, Eritrea, dating to the early centuries AD (1–500 AD) [1]. The monument bears the oldest known example of the ancient Ge'ez script, providing crucial evidence for the early development of writing in the Horn of Africa [2]. This archaeological artifact offers important insights into the linguistic and cultural history of the region prior to the Aksumite Empire.
