Qohaito

Qohaito (also known as Koloe) was a major ancient city in Eritrea's Debub region. Located over 2,500 meters above sea level on a high plateau at the edge of the Great Rift Valley, it sat approximately halfway between the Aksumite capital and its port of Adulis. As a pre-Aksumite settlement that flourished during the Aksumite period, Qohaito remains unexcavated as of 2011, though rock art suggests habitation since the fifth millennium BC. [1]
