One of the oldest known sharp-force injuries turned up at Qafzeh Cave, Israel: Qafzeh 25 had a stone-tool wound to the lower jaw about 90,000–100,000 years ago—and survived, as the bone had healed. A separate skull from Spain’s 430,000-year-old Sima de los Huesos site bears blows consistent with a possible lethal assault, suggesting violence among our ancestors is startlingly ancient. 🗡️🦴
