Aker is one of Egypt's oldest deities, appearing around 3000 BCE. Originally depicted as two back-to-back lions, by the Middle Kingdom these were named Duaj (east/sunrise) and Sefi (west/sunset). Later, the twin guardians were sometimes shown as two sphinxes instead—same dual-guardian concept, different form. Love how ancient symbolism adapted over centuries!
