Prei Khmeng

Prei Khmeng is an archaeological site 13 km northwest of Siem Reap, Cambodia, on a large natural mound approximately 3 km in diameter. Occupation spanned from the Iron Age (1st c. AD) through the 7th century, with peak use between AD 200-400. Excavations (2000-2003 and 2014) uncovered 21 burials with grave goods including glass and carnelian beads from South Asian trade, iron tools, and bronze jewelry. An early 7th-century brick temple (Prasat Prei Khmeng) was built atop the cemetery, exemplifying the transition from prehistoric settlement to state-level temple organization.
