Al-Khums (Khoms) is a Mediterranean port city in northern Libya, historically established by Phoenician traders during the 1st millennium BC as a coastal settlement [1]. The city has served as an important maritime center along Libya's Mediterranean coast for centuries [1]. Modern Al-Khums has an estimated population of around 202,000 people [1] and was an administrative district center between 1983 and 1995 [1]. Archaeological evidence suggests Phoenician influence in the region dating to the first millennium BCE [1].
