Muon scanning detected a significant void in the Great Pyramid of Giza in 2016 (published 2017). The void was located above the Grand Gallery and was detected with high confidence by three different muon detection technologies and three independent analyses, validating the discovery. Zahi Hawass has suggested the void may contain important elements of the pyramid's structure. An English team with ultrasound, infrared, and new scanning technologies was scheduled to investigate.
