The day naturally divides into four points: dawn, high noon, dusk, and midnight. The year divides into four seasons marked by two solstices and two equinoxes. For thousands of years, ancient cultures worldwide held these four points as significant. This temporal four-fold division parallels the spatial four-fold of north, south, east, and west, a pattern worth pondering.
