The Black Pyramid at Dashur was built around 1850 BC for Pharaoh Amenemhat III. This Middle Kingdom monument features a solid mud brick core of roughly 20 million bricks, originally cased in fine white Tura limestone. Measuring 105m long and 75m tall, John Shae Perring visited in 1839 when locals called it "Haram esoda" (the Black Pyramid).
