Baphuon carvings depict extinct megafauna and non-human entities

Baphuon temple in Cambodia features carvings that some online claim show animals twice the size of modern wild boars, with various theories about what these represent. However, the specific 'entelodont' or 'hell pig' identification and the famous 'Stegosaurus' controversy are more commonly associated with Ta Prohm temple, not Baphuon. The 'reptile-faced figure with tail' description is vague and could describe numerous mythological Khmer carvings. Mainstream archaeology does not support claims that Khmer artisans depicted extinct prehistoric species—the carvings most likely represent stylized versions of known animals (such as bovines or tapirs) or mythological beings, typical of Angkorian art. The mystery being proposed is not supported by archaeological evidence. 🏛️
