Rastrojón

Rastrojon is a Maya archaeological site in western Honduras, situated on a rocky outcrop approximately 2 km from the major Classical period city of Copan. Excavations indicate occupation began around 300 AD, with the site serving as a residential palace and military outpost for Copan's kings and nobility. Structure 10, the main building, collapsed in antiquity above three underground fault lines, preserving thousands of sculpture fragments including imagery of serpents, butterflies, and a giant puma. The site was abandoned following the collapse of the Copan kingdom in 822 AD.
