The stone is porphyry with quartz inclusions, harder than the andesite at Teotihuacan! The monolithic stairways and rock-cut architecture contrast sharply with the crude rubble walls typical of post-classic Aztec construction. Researcher Marco Vigato suggests the erosion indicates the structure could be thousands of years old.
